The Savannah College of Art and Design is an accredited, nonprofit, and private institution offering both bachelor’s and master’s programmes both online and offline to prepare students with talent for professional careers. Degrees are offered in over 40 majors, in addition to minors in more than 60 disciplines in Atlanta and Savannah in Georgia, Lacoste, France, Hong Kong, and online via SCAD eLearning.
Advanced resources and technology
SCAD has over 25,000 alumni and provides first-rate instruction, as well as unmatched preparation for a career in the real world of professional arts. The diverse collection of students, consisting of over 11,000 students comes from across the country- from all 50 states- in fact, and over 100 countries throughout the world.
A faculty of close to 700 professors with both valuable experience and exceptional academic credentials encourage and mentor each of the students. The professors emphasise individual learning in a motivating university setting. SCAD’s curriculum features professional-level and advanced learning resources, equipment, and technology, and has earned high praise from respected publications and organisations, including the Los Angeles Times, U.S. News and World Report, DesignIntelligence, BusinessWeek, American Institute of Architects, and 3D World.
An array of disciplines, flagship campus
SCAD offers a number of degrees and specialisations, which include visual effects, sound design, sequential art, jewellery and metals, photography, painting. game development and interactive design, graphic design, furniture design, motion graphics and broadcast design, fashion, fibres, cinema studies, art history, animation, arts administration, architectural history, performing arts, sound design, television and film, and urban design.
The departments in 1997 were reorganised in order to provide minors with the opportunity to enrol in major programmes, as well as in a number of complementary areas, to expand their future career opportunities.
The college’s flagship Savannah campus provides a full educational experience in the coastal south. The campus features over 60 facilities in one of the country’s most renowned and largest National Historic Landmark districts. In 1981, SCAD offered its very first study programme away from campus, in New York City. They later held sessions in England, Australia, Italy, Germany, France, China, Thailand, Cuba, and Japan.
Buying colleges in Lacoste and Atlanta
In 2002, the college purchased France’s Lacoste School of Arts where it runs a study-abroad programme operating all year round. SCAD-Atlanta launched in 2005 when it opened to classes with 77 students. In 2006, the Atlanta campus expanded after making another acquisition, this time the Atlanta College of Art.
SCAD-Atlanta had enrolled close to 2,000 students by 2010 and offered 20 degree programmes. The college’s facilities are based in Atlanta’s Midtown arts district. SCAD also opened a campus in Hong Kong’s Sham Shui Po district in 2009 with eight study programmes.
SCAD launched its eLearning programme in 2003, providing both degree and certificate programmes to an international, Internet-based community. Students from all over the world were able to choose from any of 15 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees through its award-winning web-based programmes. SCAD-eLearning further offers individual courses and certificate programmes.
